Welcome to our garden, once known as Cathedral Cottage, but somehow that name doesn’t quite fit now. Wander down the driveway lined with 100-year-old Chestnut Trees. Marvel at the number of the old trees that have healed and continue to live following the devastating 2009 Black Saturday fires. Our philosophy has been to preserve and nurture anything that survived, hence the wonderfully eclectic mixture of old and new, ornamental and native plants.
It’s been trial and error re-establishing the garden, having lost the protection of the boundary trees. We have suffered wind, floods and frosts and lost many newly planted shrubs and some older plants along the way forcing us to reassess future plans. This year sees us laying out our final garden beds and bringing the garden together, with over 200 additional plants.
Our home is surrounded by garden beds featuring ornamental trees, fruit trees, herb and vegetable gardens. As you head towards the banks of the Acheron River you will notice the transition to native plants integrating with the natural landscape creating a haven for birds and wildlife. Moving back to the house you can take in the borrowed landscape of the majestic Cathedral Range, which provides a stunning and ever changing back drop.
We have worked closely with Prue Metcalfe Garden Design, who has been intimately involved in advising and providing inspiration for our garden over 14 years. Our garden is a joy, welcoming and a tribute to resilience and perseverance. Please come and enjoy it with us.
