132 Breakaway Road, Acheron
Marian is a renowned artist and runs a Gallery and Café/Restaurant on the site of the old Rennie farm garden, the beginnings of which date back to 1901.
The garden was established in the early 1950s when newlyweds Pat and John Rennie built their own home on the family property. Over the years Pat annexed more and more paddocks to expand her beloved garden, inspired by the designs
of Edna Walling and her love of dogwoods (there are more than 30 in the garden, providing a spectacular display each Spring).
Today it also features fully-grown varieties of Magnolias, Elms, Tulip Trees and Camellias underscored by masses of Japanese Windflowers, Californian Poppies, Lamb’s Ears and geometric hedged spaces, against a backdrop of ancient River Red Gums.
‘Within the Land’ – Sculpture at Acheron Show and Exhibition is an exciting artistic event showcasing sculpture in various forms in Marian Rennie’s historic rural garden, a landscaped setting of several acres abutting the Goulburn River.
This inaugural sculpture show is open to all practising and new artists from around Australia. There are 4 prizes consisting of the $10,000 Ariah Park Acquisitive Prize, the $5,000 Acheron Acquisitive Prize, a $500 Kinetic Challenge Award and a $500 People’s Choice Award.
“We’re very excited to open the ‘Within the Land’ Sculpture Show in conjunction with the Alexandra and District Open Gardens, said Marian. “Beginning on Friday night, 26th October with a Cocktail Party and the announcement of prize winners, all proceeds from gate-takings during the 27th and 28th October will be directed to the Open Gardens Scheme.”
From the 29th October the Sculpture Show, running alongside a “Flora” exhibition in the Gallery, will be open to the public from 10.30am to 4.00pm Thursday to Monday each week until the 30th November 2018. The café/restaurant will open at the same time and a High Tea will be served each Sunday for the duration.
