We finished building our home on this town block just 6 years ago and the gardening had already began, and I’m sure you know, a garden is never finished. The front yard is predominantly native with the feature being a Silver Princess Eucalypt that is beautiful all year round. Other planting includes grevillea, kangaroo paw, grasses, native rosemary, convolvulus and correa. There are also olive trees and sedum. The front yard is very low care, only needing the odd weed and water.
The back yard had a lot to be fitted into a relatively small space, so we choose to have no lawn. Features include the dry creek bed, which is functional in heavy downpours, and a round sitting area. The garden is filled with silver birch, crepe myrtle, maple, magnolia, smoke bush and the beginnings of a new camellia hedge. The camellia sasanqua ‘hiryu’ have replaced other camellia that were not doing as expected and had to go. A range of flowering plants include salvia, roses, liriope, iris, daffodil, hellebore, fuchsia, aquilegia and buddleja. This year we have extended the garden by underplanting some shady areas with hosta and arthropodium.
Other infrastructure includes a generous garden shed, chook yard, orchid shade house, raised vegie beds and compost area. Terra-cotta pots are a favorite and are spread throughout the garden. Anyone re visiting this garden will notice an extension to the dry creek, and some new garden beds. We hope you enjoy your visit to our garden.
There will be a display of my quilts as you enter the garden.
