This large, stylish garden is 15 years old and has flourished and matured into a beautiful, calm, peaceful and productive space.
With a backdrop of forest and views across the Acheron Valley to Cathedral Mountain the garden is an oasis in an occasionally harsh environment.
Philip has selected trees and plantings that have matured to create elegant and colourful spaces that are interspersed with formal iris and lavender areas to provide spots to take in the magnificent views. There is an extensive collection of proteas that enjoy a well-drained mound created when the pool was dug and a terrace of shrubs and roses overlook the pool. The plantings are well chosen for their environment with clematis, wisteria and exotics softening the house and pool areas and native ground covers under-plant the trees.
The huge netted fruit and vegetable gardens provide an abundance of produce for the home and are watered by a sophisticated worm composting system that provides nutrients and reclaimed water. The garden is a testament to what can be done in a dry paddock with skilled plant selection and the proper soil preparation.
Apart from the beauty of the garden, I strongly recommend visiting this garden to those who are planning a garden renovation whether in town or country.
This venue is 5.2 kms from the Maroondah Highway.
