Leanne and Allan were first involved with Alexandra & District Open Gardens in 2017 at their holiday house in Alexandra. In 2019, they purchased and moved permanently to their property in Buxton on 1.75 acres of mostly what could be described as a bare paddock with some light landscaping around the house.
The creative designs, landscaping and garden structures were built by Leanne and Allan with no external contractors so you could say it has been a labour of love, blood, sweat and tears.
First the large rocks were placed in the rock garden, the ‘ravine’ was created with a large pond attracting the local birds, the Pétanque lawn and pavilion were added and the wisteria and rose arbour was built.
Sweeping garden beds have been added including a Bird walk with Australian natives and a Butterfly Garden providing sanctuary for butterflies and honeyeaters on nectar giving plants.
A large firepit area has been created just outside the back of the house. Many sculptures have been purchased over the years and placed throughout the garden adding interest and focal points. There is also a large ‘live’ sculpture planted with maiden hair creeper.
Fruit trees have been planted and around these an extensive vegetable garden has been developed.
A new garden bed was developed in April featuring four new sculptures and this garden is called the Romantic Garden with lots of bulbs, cottage plants, two Michelia magnolias and many irises.
Leanne and Allan welcome you to Bullalea Park.
