Having previously opened the Leckey family garden as part of the Alexandra Open Garden Scheme, this new project for the Leckey’s has seen the garden transformed in 18 months.

The original owners had carefully considered a fruit and vegetable planting, extensive camellia hedging and beautiful deciduous trees so we worked with this as the foundation.  We had a vision moving forward and with the help of Kim Pammer (a local garden designer), we set out to create the next chapter at Moloney’s (original custodians) now known as Two Rivers Lodge.

A new large sweeping garden bed was created at the entrance with mass plantings of Perovskia atriplicifolia, Rhaphiolepis indica, Teucrium fruticans and Nepeta Walkers for maximum impact on arrival.  Substantial hornbeam hedging (which we have long admired in England as a backbone in country gardens) was planted to shield sheds and water tanks, paving and a wider circular driveway were created with steel edging and paps toppings to add formality.   Cattle yards and infrastructure close to the house were removed to allow the original oat and chaff barn dating back Circa 1900 to be the hero.   Redgum timber milled on the property was used for fencing and handcrafted  timber gates made by a local craftsman connect the paddocks beyond.

A new outdoor dining area to the north has been planted out with Crimson glory vine (Vitis Coignetiae) which when established will provide shade and glorious Autumn colour.  This vine has also been extended around the house to soften the lines of the home and eventually connect the garden and home to be as one.   An established Cedar of Lebanon is another special hero in the garden.

We look forward to welcoming you to this special part of Acheron.
